Clarion student nominated for national scholarship

The Clarion University Chapter of Phi Eta Sigma Freshman Honor Society has nominated Katelynn Muth for an undergraduate scholarship at the national level.

Muth, a senior mathematics major with a minor in economics, is a daughter of Larry and Kathie Muth of Ridgway, and is a graduate of Ridgway High School.

She was inducted into Phi Eta Sigma in Spring 2006 and currently serves as the organization’s senior advisor, having served as treasurer in 2006-07. She participates in the Phi Eta Sigma volunteer tutoring program for local high school students. She is also a member of the Clarion University Honors Program.

Phi Eta Sigma National Undergraduate Scholarships are awarded in the amount of $1,000 - $3,000. Decisions about the undergraduate scholarships are expected in early May.

The oldest and largest freshman honor society, Phi Eta Sigma was founded at the University of Illinois on March 22, 1923. Phi Eta Sigma has 353 chapters throughout the United States, and more than 900,000 members. Phi Eta Sigma was voted membership into the Association of College Honor Societies in 1937. Only three societies have had longer continuous membership.
