Phi Theta Kappa inducts new members

The 29th Phi Theta Kappa induction ceremony was held on February 16, 2008, at the Quality Inn and Conference Center in Franklin. Beth Jackson and Kelly Lander serve as chapter advisors for Alpha Kappa Delta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. Jason Indan, Pennsylvania State President of Phi Theta Kappa, was the guest speaker. Latrobe Barnitz, Coordinator of Admissions and Financial Aid, provided music.

The new 2008-2009 inductees are Elizabeth Austin, Charity Barger, Zach Bernard, Debra Carbaugh, Jonathan Frazier, Dee Henry, Amber Jewell, Shawna Jewell, Jean Kinnear, Amy Lewis, Tom Meier, Daniele Merryman, Leslie Moyer, Jamie Renwick, Pamela Schmader, Lori Secor, Andrea Stiller, Brianne Vroman, and Valerie Wonderling. Dr. Joan Huber was inducted as an honorary member.

The newly installed 2008-2009 officers are Patti Shontz (President), Elizabeth Austin (VP of Community Events), Daniele Merryman (VP of Fundraising), Heather Almond (Co-VP of Membership), Amber Jewell (Co-VP of Membership), Shawna Jewell (VP of Public Relations), Jamie Renwick (Secretary), and Esther Estes (Treasurer).

Phi Theta Kappa serves to recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students and provides opportunities for individual growth and development through honors, leadership, and service programming. Today, Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society in American higher education with more than two million members and 1,200 chapters located in all 50 United States, U.S. territories, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Germany, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, United Arab Emirates and Palau.

Phi Theta Kappa members participate in an incentive gift card drawing the last meeting of every month. The February winners received a $25 gift certificate to Eat’n Park. Congratulations to Charity Barger and Beth Austin! Phi Theta Kappa’s next meeting is scheduled for March 27th at 4:00p.m. in the Rhoades Club Meeting Room.
