Construction update 3-28

The Clarion University Office of Finance and Administration has provided an update on the major construction projects underway at Clarion University.

Campbell Hall Demolition and South Campus Parking Lot

Debris has largely been removed down to the ground level. Remaining debris will be used as fill material to facilitate construction of the new parking lot to be situated in the old Campbell site.

Pedestrians and those operating vehicles in the area are reminded that demolition by nature can be hazardous despite efforts to contain debris. Extra caution is urged and individuals should not walk or drive near demolition sites.

Dining Hall

The steel for the Wood Street entrance tower has been installed. Furnishings are now being selected for the building with student input. Planning will begin soon for the demolition of Chandler Dining Hall to facilitate the next phase of on-campus student residences.

The road between Carrier Hall and the new dining hall is still restricted to one lane and needs to be blocked for a few days when the roof is installed. A trench for electrical lines will be dug across parking lot H and the walkway from parking lot 6 and parking lot H to Carrier may be obstructed in early April. Those parking in lot H and lot 6 should use the steps east of lot H.

Science-Technology Building

Workers are finishing steel framing to accommodate the exterior walls. Concrete still needs to be poured in a number of locations, as weather allows, to accommodate more interior work.

Some trenching will be dug in the area of the science-technology construction site in the future to allow workers to connect electric, sewer, water and communications lines to the site. Extra care is urged around excavation and normal pedestrian traffic paths near this site.

On-Campus Residences

Building # 1 on Wood Street is still experiencing weather-related delay, precluding concrete pours. Building #4 near Ralston Hall should see the installation of a roof in the near future.

Model rooms available with furniture from each vendor will be on display in Gemmell Student Center to allow students to recommend particular furniture and vendors. One hundred people have already signed up for rooms in the new residences.

Monday and Tuesday, March 31 and April 1, contractors will be laying sanitary/sewer lines, which may impact traffic near Ralston Hall.

Orientation will be using lot H and lot 6 for parking Friday, March 28, and many subsequent Fridays throughout the spring and summer. Employees currently parking in lot H should park in lot 5 on Friday. Overall parking in lots 5 and 6 will be limited on Friday.
