Hepler named Clarion University registrar

Lisa Hepler

Lisa Hepler has been appointed Clarion University’s Registrar. She had been serving as interim registrar since August 2005 when her predecessor, Bernadette Krenzer, left for a position with the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.

“Lisa's background and experience will be important attributes as our registrar team provides services with the management of the integrity and accuracy of academic records and the

delivery of educational information services for the university community,” said Sam Puleio, assistant vice president for computing services, in making the announcement.

“I have had a variety of experiences in the registrar’s office,” said Hepler. “I always liked taking on additional responsibilities. It keeps me motivated and fresh.”

Hepler has worked her way up to her present position. A graduate of the Bradford School, Pittsburgh, where she received a cooperative secretarial degree she first worked for Rose, Schmidt, Hasley & DiSalle in Pittsburgh. She joined Clarion University in May 1990 as secretary for the geography and earth science department.

She moved to the Registrar’s Office later in that same year as a clerk typist. In 1996, she was named OnCourse coordinator, a position she held for nine years. During that same time period, she attended Clarion University class part time and in 2003 earned her bachelor of science in business administration. She is currently enrolled in Clarion University’s Master’s of Business Administration degree program.

“I like it at Clarion University,” said Hepler. “We are here for the students. This is why I wanted to be the full-time registrar.”

The Registrar’s Office provides many services for students including: academic transcripts, co-curricular transcripts, change of major, credit/no record, class withdrawal, enrollment verifications, evaluation of transfer credits, processing graduation applications, answers questions on class registrations and degree audits, and provides information to all students via e-mail. The office also provides the class schedules for each semester. Last year, the schedule of classes was available only on-line with additional links for graduate students and web courses.

“The job can be challenging, because there is so much going on and because the needs of different groups need to be met,” said Hepler. “We are here for the students, administration, faculty, and staff. I have a great staff, which does a good job in getting everything accomplished and answering the variety of questions the office receives.”

According to Hepler, several new projects are underway or planned for the near future. Digital imaging of academic records was started in the last year and will be an ongoing project. The Registrar’s Office started a newsletter geared to faculty members over a year ago to update them on new information and as a reminder of upcoming deadlines.

“We would like to start a newsletter geared to student to update them on important items and remind them of upcoming deadlines. We will also be working to revise our website.”

Hepler lives in New Bethlehem with her husband, Jeff. She has two stepchildren, Laurie, who received her B.S.B.A. and M.B.A. degree from Clarion University, and Matthew.
