Clarion University presents Alumni Association Scholarships


Ten students will receive the Clarion University Alumni Association Undergraduate Scholarship and Leadership Awards. The committee awards $7,000 in scholarships of varying amounts, half for the Fall 2008 semester, and the remainder for the Spring 2009 semester.

The recipients include:

Andrea Strickenberger, a junior speech pathology major, a daughter of Charlie and Wenda Strickenberger of Leeper and a graduate of North Clarion High School.

Brittany Ochs, a senior elementary education/early childhood major, a daughter of Nancy Ochs of Leeper and a graduate of North Clarion High School.

Cara Carpin, a senior biology major, a daughter of Rick and Cindy Staley of Clarion and a graduate of Clarion Area High School.

Cybill Swab, a senior elementary education/special education major, a daughter of Tom and Linda Swab of Brookville and a graduate of Brookville Area High School.

Elizabeth Newcomer, a junior elementary education/early childhood major, a daughter of Thomas and Judy Newcomer of Glenshaw and a graduate of North Hills High School.

Emily Barney, a sophomore speech pathology major, a daughter of Pete and Lisa Barney of Industry and a graduate of Western Beaver High School.

Matthew Mayger, a senior secondary education/social studies major, a son of David and Kathy Mayger of Latrobe and a graduate of Greater Latrobe High School.

Nicole Bovaird, a sophomore elementary education major, a daughter of Roger and Lori Bovaird of Brockway and a graduate of Brockway Area High School.

Sarah Yakima, a senior English major, a daughter of Edward and Sue Yakima of Portersville and a graduate of Slippery Rock Area High School.

Trichelle Hoovler, a junior accounting major, a daughter of Thomas and Kenda Hoovler of Fredonia and a graduate of Kennedy Catholic High School.

The Alumni Association makes available several Clarion University Alumni Association Scholarships, plus eight Leadership Awards. At least two of the Leadership Awards are reserved for children of Clarion University alumni. Special consideration is given to participants in the University's Eagle Ambassadors program for one scholarship and three leadership awards.

The awards are open to full-time undergraduate students who will have completed at least 30 credit hours at Clarion University. The selection criteria include: a 3.0 or better cumulative GPA, community service, service to Clarion University, letters of recommendation and financial need.

All scholarship funds are administered by the Clarion University Foundation, Inc. The Clarion University Foundation, Inc., organized in 1969, is a not-for-profit corporation. The Foundation was formed to promote educational purposes in connection with or at the request of Clarion University. It is the organization designated to receive and manage private sector gifts provided for the support of the activities and programs of the University. Such gifts are generated through contributions from alumni, faculty and staff, business and industry, retired faculty members, and other friends of Clarion University.
