Clarion University inducted 14 of its business students to the Clarion chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma, an international honor society for the best business students in the world, during a ceremony in Moore Hall.

Induction into the society is a high honor, with only students ranking in the top seven percent of their junior class, top 10 percent of their senior class, and top 20 percent of master’s programs at schools accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) eligible for invitation to join this society.

Dr. James Pesek, Clarion University Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter president and interim dean of the College of Business Administration, conducted the induction ceremony. College of Business Administration faculty members, Dr. Jeffrey Eicher, Dr. William Sanders, and Dr. Soga Ewedemi assisted.

The guest speaker was Maria Kirby, economic development specialist for Clarion County Economic Development Corporation. Her topic was “Work Ethic.” Kirby received her B.S. in psychology and her M.B.A. from Clarion University.

Beta Gamma Sigma was founded in 1913 as a national organization. Its mission is to encourage and honor academic achievement in the study of business and personal and professional excellence in the practice of business. The members must fulfill the principles and values of the society: honor and integrity and pursuit of wisdom and earnestness.

Induction in Beta Gamma Sigma is an international honor. With the expansion of AACSB accreditation internationally, membership is no longer limited to those who have studied in the U.S. or Canada. These students are now eligible for the highest recognition a business student anywhere in the world can receive in an undergraduate or master’s program at a school accredited by AACSB International.
