Construction update 5-12

The Clarion University Office of Finance and Administration has provided an update on the major construction projects underway at Clarion University.

Still Hall Tree Removal

Allegheny Power will begin removing trees along Main Street/Route 322 south of Still Hall in the near future. These trees interfere with electrical lines in the area and obscure the visibility of drivers and pedestrians using the crosswalks. New trees were planted near Still in anticipation of the need to remove some trees in the area and removal of the old trees should assist in their growth.

Campbell Hall Demolition and South Campus Parking Lot

Demolition is complete.

Dining Hall

Contractors are sealing the south wall and will backfill, and then build the entrance off Wood St. Most of duct work in the mechanical room has been completed and work is starting on the upper deck. Windows on the north lower side should start Monday, meaning the road north of the Dining Hall will need to be shut down for a period to facilitate this work and ensure safety.

Pedestrian/vehicular traffic and safety: Construction vehicles will also be entering and leaving the job site to transport materials. Use caution near the jobsite.

Science-Technology Building

Work on the steam trough continued with the completion of the steam and electrical conduit running the steam trough. A portion of the steam trough has been covered in preparation for the backfill to begin. Progress also continued on the HVAC, plumbing, electrical and exterior framing. On Monday, May 5, Davis Roadway was paved and this access is now fully open to pedestrian and vehicular traffic. As with any road adjacent to a construction site, caution is advised.

Pedestrian/vehicular traffic and safety: Trenching is being used to allow workers to connect electric, sewer, water and communications lines to the site. Use extra care around excavation and normal pedestrian traffic paths near this site.

Building #1 progress continued with the continued installation of the roof support and face work as brick installation on Building #4 continued. Weather conditions continue to allow increased activity.

Other pedestrian/vehicular traffic and safety issues: For June, Orientation will now be using Lot H and Lot 6 for parking on Tuesday and Thursday. Employees currently parking in Lot H should park in Lot 5 on Tuesday and Thursday.
